Chalk in the Park

pBoredLA just so happens to be a major advocate of the Chalk Revolution movement through L.A. Chalking is cool, and you don’t have to be six years old to enjoy it! (Sounds like a good “Never Too Old” post to me…) We have chalking at all of our events, USC has had their own revolution involving free speech through chalk, Pasadena does a big chalking event each year, and now West Hollywood is hosting a chalk day. It all goes down at Chalk Art in the Park at Plummer Park on Saturday at 11am. The first 100 people to show up get a free goodie bag and plenty of pastel chalk to create your most beautiful work. There will be a chalk contest as well for all ages and abilities.

[...] Although I’m excited that these resources are available, and I’m sure you could spend some money buying guide books, coffee table books, or going on tours, the great part about the public art is that it’s everywhere.  It’s on the sides of buildings and freeways.  It’s in coffee shops, parks, and those electrical boxes that interrupt the sidewalks like metal bushes.  These images help me find my way around the city, or at least make getting lost much more interesting: past the giant guns that point in either direction, before the long orange face, if I see the caged monkey I’ve gone too far, ect.  So this is my first LA Rave: Public art!  It’s everywhere, it’s free, and anyone can participate.
